Thalassotherapy comes from the Greek word thalassa (meaning "sea") and uses the beneficial properties of seawater.
The properties of seawater, including those involving trace elements of magnesium, potassium, calcium, sodium, and iodide, are believed to have beneficial effects upon the pores of the skin.
The therapy is applied in various forms using hot seawater, mud, and seaweed.
